Lost profits are the earnings a victim failed to make because of harm suffered, that is, what the victim reasonably would have received had the event not occurred. A typical example is a driver who cannot work while his vehicle is in the repair shop. To recover compensation, you must reasonably demonstrate what you failed to earn; purely hypothetical or imaginary gains are not included. Lost profits are part of material damages, alongside actual losses (danos emergentes).
