Periodic payments made to support someone who cannot provide for themselves, such as children, a former spouse, or elderly parents. It covers food, housing, health care, education, and clothing. The amount is set based on the needs of the person receiving support and the financial capacity of the person paying, known as the need-and-ability (necessidade-possibilidade) standard. It can be reviewed when those conditions change over time.
