A redhibitory defect (vício redibitório) is a hidden flaw in something you received under a contract that makes it unfit for its intended use or reduces its value, and that could not have been noticed when it was delivered. Once the problem comes to light, the buyer can return the item and get back what was paid, or ask for a reduction in the price. The law sets short deadlines for making a claim, counted from delivery or from the discovery of the defect.
