Prescrição is the loss of the right to sue for something in court because time has run out. It happens when the rights holder stays idle and does not act within the period set by law. It does not erase the debt itself, but it removes your ability to demand payment in court. Each type of claim has its own deadline. The period can be interrupted or suspended in specific situations defined by law.
